When we think of Grand Theft Auto, the first thing that comes to mind is high-speed police chases and multi-million dollar heists. However, in the roleplay ecosystem, civilians with legal jobs are the pillar that sustains the entire server.
We still don’t know what options Rockstar will give us in Leonida’s future multiplayer section, but based on years of experience in FiveM, roleplaying an honest citizen usually generates the best stories.
The Economic Cycle of Roleplay
On a well-configured server, money doesn’t appear out of nowhere. For a criminal to be able to rob a convenience store, someone has to have stocked it. For a car to be modified for illegal races, a mechanic has to be working in their shop.
Fundamental jobs in the city:
- Mechanics: They are the social heart of the city. Mechanic shops are natural gathering points where civilians, police, and mobsters converge to fix or modify their vehicles.
- Medical Services (EMS): The role of doctor or paramedic requires nerves of steel. You will be in charge of stabilizing gunshot victims after a shootout, forcing players to roleplay their injuries realistically.
- Taxi Drivers and Transport: At the beginning of the game, when no one has money for a car, the taxi driver knows everyone. It is the perfect profession to strike up conversations (and collect rumors or valuable information).
The Slow Progression
Unlike classic GTA Online, where in a week you can have a luxury apartment and a yacht, serious roleplay opts for a very slow progression. Buying your first used car after weeks of working as a garbage collector or delivery driver generates a brutal sense of attachment to your possessions.
Why choose the legal path?
Roleplaying a civilian does not mean getting bored. A good civilian roleplay involves opening your own restaurant, managing financial stress, organizing legal events in the city, or even getting accidentally involved in police plots as a witness (or hostage). Additionally, mafias need legal fronts to launder money, which means a simple coffee shop owner can end up being the key piece of a criminal empire.
